Autumn Term

Year Group Highlights

Belle Vue Church Visit

As part of their work learning about different religions, the children in year 4 visit Belle Vue Baptist Church in Southchurch.

During their visit, the children learnt more about the church and its importance to Christians.  Reverend Andy Goodliff, the church minister, made the children and staff very welcome.  He talked to the children about the importance of baptism to Christians and answered the children's questions about what they were learning.

Year 4 Roman Day

Year 4 stepped back to the Roman times this term.  The children started their day with a Roman feast which included trying olives (these didn't prove to be very popular!).  The children also enjoyed being Roman artists and decorating silver name plates with their chosen Roman name and creating oil lamps and mosaics.  Each class also used the Roman shields they had created in class earlier to practise their battle formations when they took on the role of Roman soldiers!

Bikeability

Year 4 enjoyed completing their Bikeability Level 1 in the autumn term. Each class had one session on the playground with children that weren't yet confident spending time learning to balance on a bike. Level 1 is all about preparing children to cycle on the road.

Level 1 riders can:

  • prepare themselves for a journey
  • check their bike is ready for a journey
  • set off, pedal, slow down and stop
  • pedal (including looking behind, cycling one-handed, turning and controlling speed)

Well done to everyone that passed Level 1. We hope you continue cycling safely.
