Spring Term

Red Nose Day

Our school council invited staff and children to wear red for the day for a donation to Comic Relief. Children were also able to purchase a red nose from their school councillor over the course of the week.

Thank you to everyone who donated to this fantastic cause.

World Book Day

To celebrate World Book Day, all of the staff and children at Hamstel Junior School celebrated the power and joy of reading by dressing as their favourite book character.

The children enjoyed an array of activities including drama, art and writing, all based on a specially chosen book. The day culminated in a special World Book Day assembly where children were treated to a number of their teachers sharing extracts from their favourite childhood books.

Winners of the special World Book Day competition were rewarded with stationery whilst children with the best costume in each year group were rewarded with their own newly released books!

Star Author

The children in years 3 and 4 had a fantastic day this term when they were visited by our star author, Gareth P. Jones. The children produced some wonderful writing when Gareth set them the challenge of writing a story with multiple endings.

Well done to our competition winners who were chosen to join Gareth for a special star author lunch. The children had to write their own mystery story involving a stolen object and a mysterious location! As well as lunch with our star author the children were rewarded with their own signed copy of one of his books!

Maths Day

This, every year group spent a day celebrating all things maths!

The children were immersed in geometry as each year group focused on a different area of maths. From tessellating patterns in year 3, tangrams in year 4, nets in year 5 and circles (and pi!) in year 6, everyone had a great time learning about shape and space!

Billy's Band

Years 4 and 5 were treated to a wonderful live music concert this term, performed by Billy's Band. The band's six professional musicians performed a selection of classical and modern pieces including He's a Pirate, from the Pirates of the Caribbean. The children were invited to join in with the pieces and had a great time singing the tunes and clapping out rhythms.
